CORAFE

Aquaculture for space exploration and aquaculture on Earth share the same biological and technical challenges with different goals.

On Earth, rearing several edible aquatic organisms with the same water volume into a sustainable Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) will contribute to the global food security and the environment conservation/natural biodiversity.
On a Lunar base, in a poor and extreme environment, the goal is to convert and valorize all molecules from the RAS and/or the Bioregenerative Life Support System (BLSS) waste in the aim to optimize the closed loop.

Before designing an aquatic closed loop on the Moon to feed the future Moonbase residents, scientific community have to check the feasibility to send aquaculture organism, especially fish, to the Moon. During the journey several environmental parameters will change and espacially the cosmic rays exposure. This projet focuses on the proton fluence exposure inside the spacecraft during the Moon mission trajectory.
